ABOUT
This project called Hairscapes encompasses the final outputs of the Master Thesis Project which is performance events hosted at the Theaterplatz in Basel which I just completed. It also showcases the exhibitions and the installations in Basel, Switzerland open spaces and the aftermath of these performances. Expanding on African artists such as Laetitia Ky, in this research is key who deal with black hair as a social movement and vessel for social art and culture.
Performative Cultural Context Mediation is an investigation in new ways of seeing, learning and understanding cultural contexts in African and African Diaspora art, even within other cultures in museum systems.
The project aims to raise awareness and provide absent contextual narratives behind African artworks, promoting such art for both Swiss and African communities. It advocates for new ways of seeing, learning, and understanding through performative interventions and mediations that address spatial and cultural contexts.
